Not everyone wants to a sweet and syrupy gift book (March 16th, 2008)

There’s a thin line between having a one track mind and a personality disorder. Believe it or not, that is the theme of the humorous picture book, Legs Talk: Let Your Legs do the Talking.

It all began a few years ago, when author D.E. Boone realized that when it comes to some relationships, there are more downs than ups. “Not everyone can relate to the unbelievably sweet sayings we often read in most gift books and greeting cards,” says Boone. “In fact, most people never talk like that.”

“Many men are overly focused on women’s body parts,” declares Boone. Dating a man with a one track mind is tricky enough; add to the mix, a man with a leg craze, and you have a recipe for a different kind of gift book.

Inspired by the edgier side of dating, Boone reveals what women encounter when faced with a man’s outrageous obsessions. As a result, Boone departs from the typical sugary dialogue; in its place, are animated exchanges with lots of attitude. “I wanted to confront the realities of our less than fairy-tale like relationships,” says Boone. “But do it in a unique and witty way.” Most couples bicker from time to time, hopefully they can work it out. One the hand, if they cannot, maybe they should split up.

“People are actually using the book to laugh about their bad relationships,” explains Boone. They buy it for their friends; it is a great get-over-him gift. At first glance, the tale combines comical banter alongside classic black and white photos. Visually, the story is told by a pair of sassy legs. However, Boone never reveals the character’s faces, thus the title Legs Talk. “Leave it to up the readers imagination,” says Boone.

Laced with body language, humor and rants, the most popular ones include a picture of a woman who is obviously meditating. The text reads: “Thinking of you…Not!

Another picture displays a woman sitting on a chair with a gun dangling in her hand, which reads, “Now, I am thinking of you!”

“We may be celebrating the coming of Spring - the season of love, yet there are thousands of people who are not happy with their current relationships. At the same time, they would rather laugh than cry about it,” says Boone.
