The idea of trends at fashion week seems outrageous considering the entire event is so fabulously fashionable, but as usual, celebs were spotted rockin’ a few standout styles. Trench coats, sheer tops and bright accents seem to be coming our way for Spring - flowers, babies and sunshine will have nothing on us come April!
The rain didn’t stop the stars from showing up to fashion week in their designer best with their trench coats protected them. Fitted, flared, loose and lengthy - every style and color was present. Mandy Moore blazed in banana yellow, while Ginnifer Goodwin gave Big Love to a bright white simple fitted frock. Natasha Richardson was literally spotted in a tie-dyed brown and white trim trench at the Michael Kors show, and Sophia Bush looked perfectly put together in a sheer organza trench at the night screening of Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton. Needless to say, it seems the trench will be a staple in the spring wardrobe - perfect for heeding off rainy weather and left over winter chill while still looking chic and fab.
And what to wear underneath that trench? While flashers may opt for nothing, stars were going sheer. Always a fashion weapon, this spring sheer shirts are coming back with a vengeance. From barely there to suggestively sexy, this ageless trend was spotted at New York’s fashion week on stars ranging from Rihanna to Brooke Shields. Incorporated in the jeweled-neck of Christina Milian’s sheath, the dress appeared deceivingly modest from afar and uproariously sexy up close and personal. The trend of the sheer can also incorporate another fashion vibe - layering. Sara Ramirez was the picture of sheer layered perfection in an Angel Sanchez dress with a sweetheart neckline peeping out from under a draped high neck - a true contradiction of conservative and sexy style.
Lastly, black is always in but color is gaining ground. Bright blues, bold yellows, shocking oranges and blazing reds made their mark and true to celeb style, made it hard not to stare. Angie Harmon paired a radiant sunshine top with black pants, accentuating her beautiful dark hair and features. Joss Stone added a bright blue tank to her casual jeans and gray sweater coat adding an element of va-voom to the ordinary. But shirts weren’t the only area that pigment showed its true color; clutches, scarves and even fingernails were areas for vivid expression. At the Badgley Mischka show, Ana Ortiz matched her roaring red bag to her noisy red nails and Nicky Hilton shook up her basic black and white with a blue plaid scarf that made her similarly blue eyes pop.
While the Fall 2008 fashions were being debuted on the runway, the stars were giving us insight into what would be coming our way once the weather breaks. With all the sexy styles and eye-catching color, we certainly have something to get us through the lingering cold of the winter’s end and keep us looking forward to the fashion of spring!
