This the first instance of players, affiliated to any state board, signing up for the league. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), in response to this, has recalled all the seven players from the Buchi Babu tournament and has sent in replacements. The BCCI had earlier threatened to ban players or officials who sign up with the ICL.
Hyderabad Cricket Association President, G Govind, has described this latest development as ‘very embarrassing’. The President admitted that this will weaken the Ranji team, but they will try to put in replacements. Govind also confirmed that, “the players have joined ICL last night in Chennai and informed the HCL about it this morning”. He said that he had no clue as to why these players have left HCL and that things might have been different had they informed the board before joining ICL.
