The 1-0 victory of the Indian team over England has brought in many laurels for them. They jumped two places from the fifth to the third position, while England managed to hold on to the second position owing to the draw in the final test match of the series. The first match had ended in a draw and the second match was won by India. Had India managed a 2-0 victory than they would have been tied with England in the second position with Australia leading the ranking with 141 points!
The India cricket board, BCCI has announced a bonus of Rs 1 Crore to the team for the victory. The bonus amount is for the whole team and the coaching staff and a separate amount will be provided to the other cricketing staff. “I would like to congratulate the Indian contingent for their excellent teamwork and performance against England” said Sharad Pawar, the BCCI chief. He further said that the whole nation was proud of the team’s historic achievement that came after a gap of 21 years and wished that they would continue with this performance in the one day series that follows.
