ICL looks to net in bigger names (July 30th, 2007)

These are but just a few names who are reportedly being approached by the ICL, India’s rival league to play for them. While stars like Brain Lara have already committed to be part of the league, some other players are yet to make an announcement. Stephen Fleming is expected to announce his retirement and join the league soon, Jonty Rhodes is said to be interested.
ICL representatives are in touch with ex Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq to play for the league. Inzamam confirmed that ICL officials did get in touch with him, he is considering their offer and if things turn out to be right, he may well end up playing for the league. He said that financial benefits will a great bearing on the participation of ex international players. He believes that the league will ultimately befit Indian cricket, but it will also mean that more people will come to see the players in action.
Meanwhile Aussie Skipper Ricky Ponting slammed the league saying that this will encourage players to take early retirement from the game. Ponting said that someone like Brain Lara might be motivated to come out of retirement and play for some money, but not for someone like him.
