India escapes embarrassment in tour game (August 06th, 2007)

By the end of play on the third day, India could manage just 187 runs for the loss of 6b wickets in 55 overs. Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Jaffer both scored half centuries, but the rest of the batsman failed to fire.



Team India just about managed to escape an embarrassing situation against the Sri Lanka A team in a tour match. They made the Men in Blue sweat a lot, in the three day tour match played at Grace Road. The Lankan team had an excellent chance to defeat India in the match, but in the end they ran out of time. Perhaps they could have declared a little earlier to have a go at the India tail. In the final day India were set a target of 294 to be chased in 57 overs.

Ranadeb Bose claimed 5 wickets, while Powar took 4. In reply India made 238 runs.
