India win 1st test by 7 wickets (August 01st, 2007)

Sachin Tendulkar stuck majestic 91 runs and was looking all set for a well deserved 100 when a shocking decision from Simon Taufel ended his innings.

After the India’s performance at the Lords who would have thought that they can win the next match with 10 wickets intact, after all they had struggled to keep their wickets in the first match? But they did this and did it with grand style. Right from he toss everything went just right for India, Dravid won the toss and put England in. after that it the script unfolded perfectly, the bowlers stuck to their task by bowling out the English batsman in less then 200 runs, the batsman struck form and barring Rahul Dravid. All of them scored half centuries and were also involved in partnership of 50 or more then 50 runs. Surprisingly there were no centurions from the Indian side and we have a certain Mr. Simon Taufel to thank for that.

Sachin Tendulkar stuck majestic 91 runs and was looking all set for a well deserved 100 when a shocking decision from Simon Taufel ended his innings. It was the openers Jaffer and Karthick who laid a solid foundation for the team and the other players just built on this. The opening due put up a stand of more then 100 runs this is one factor which frustrated the English bowlers. It was after a long time that a complete team effort has made victory possible for India. Right now the team is playing without the guidance of a coach and this seems to be working out well for them.
Zaheer Khan was the chief architect of this victory with a total match haul of 9 wickets. He followed up his four wicket haul; in the first innings with a five wickets haul in the second. Michael Vaughan scored a ton for England, but once he was dismissed in the second innings, the team could not just sustain and lost their way. Resuming at the overnight score of 10 for no loss requiring another 63 runs to win the match, India achieved the target losing three wickets in the processes. India won the match by 7 wickets and Zaheer Khan was deservedly declared the Man of the Match.
