Zaheer swings the match in India’s way (August 01st, 2007)
Vaughan was unlucky to get out in the manner he did, a leg side deliver got entangled in his pad and the ball crashed to the stumps. He stood there in disbelief and the Indian’s were ecstatic. After that it was juts a matter of time before the rest of the players lost their wickets. Zaheer took five wickets when he got Collingwood and Kumble cleaned up the tail. There were certain similarities between the first and the second test match being played between India and England, but the match outcome is certainly not one of them. In the Lord’s test RP Singh took 5 wickets, Kevin Pietersen scored a ton and India were almost on the verge of losing the match, before the weather god’s intervened. On the 4th day of the second test being played at Trent Bridge, Michael Vaughan scored a sparking century, Zaheer Khan captured 5 wickets and this time India is on the brink of a historic win. By the end of play on the 4th day India require 63 runs to win and have all their 10 wickets intact.
Resuming the day at 43 for no loss, England lost Alistair Cook in the third over of the day when Zaheer trapped him in front of the wickets. Throughout the day Zaheer bowled a very good line and length, but was unlucky to get any breakthrough. Bowling from the other bowlers was ordinary to say the least and England was piling on the runs without too much of a bother. Sreesanth was wayward, R P Singh was not getting it right and there was just nothing for Kumble in the pitch. Michael Vaughan played a spirited innings; he dominated Kumble completely during his innings, and never appeared to be in any sort of trouble, after seeing off a fiery spell from Zaheer when he came in to bat.
Strauss was out just after lunch, he played a loose shot and Dhoni took a simple catch off Zaheer. When Pietersen came to the crease, everyone anticipated something to happen here. There was lot of noise being made by the Indian players, probably trying to give back what they had got from the English during their innings. The wayward Sreesanth fired a beamer to Pietersen; he took evasive action and Sreesanth immediately apologized. RP then caught KP plumb in front; he did not even wait for the umpire to raise his finger and started to walk off.

India required just 73 runs to win the match and by the end of the 4thday’s play they had knocked off 10 runs from the target. The just need 63 more runs to win on the last day and when they win the Man of the Match choice must not at all be a difficult one.
